^Animation! Something i should try.

Havent been doin much lately. I just feel… unmotivated. Updating blog included.

I been researching into local paintball organisations, since its one thing i really want to try. However, Singapore’s opportunities seem quite limited. Chest protection’s compulsory, for one thing.

My interest has shifted to airsoft- same principal, but using guns that fire plastic pellets. Airsoft weapons are basically quieter imitations of real weapons. Non-lethal, of course. Goggles are a must, and the pellets hit hard enough to raise welts and occasionally draw blood. Looks like fun.

Only problem is that Singapore is… well… pbtthpphhth. The biggest airsoft company is supposed to be based in Scotland, i think.

I wanted to post more stuff but i forgot exactly what.

Probably the last update for a while, and kinda rushed since im packing for the weekend dive trip.

Dad ran over my foot today…! Getting off the car to work, I guess I stepped off in the wrong place or something- not really Dad’s fault. He drove off and caught my ankle/heel on the edge of the tire. Thank God for sturdy shoes and jeans. Still, my reaction was a huge:

“FUUUUUUUUUC-”

I think I yelled loud enough to turn a few heads, and Dad stopped the car. Anyway, bit of a sprain and a few grazes, but nothing too serious.

I was heading off toward the escalator, and some old guy started blabbering at me in chinese. I think it was me, because it was something about standing in the wrong place from what i could make out. But then again, he had a lazy eye, came across as belligerent and more than a little around the bend, so I just walked off. Hobbled off.

Going diving with Dad in Batam! Also, got myself my own scuba ~~goggles.~~ No, I mean mask. Scuba MASK. Yeah.

Okay, looks a bit odd like this, but i think its wayy better than the masks that Fisherman Dive provides. Those work well, i guess, but sometimes feels like strapping a brick to your face. At least this one’s more ergonomic.

I may move over to a new blog soon- or check out twitter. Dunno how it works, but

An update, long overdue

So, my blog’s been all left in the dark for a while now, but HAY U GUYS ITS AN UPDATE. So…

Been drawing a fair bit, but Im going to upload a whole lot now, having gotten myself a new scanner! Which actually is a ~4 year old piece of junk that i only noticed when Dad said he was going to throw it away. Still works quite well.

Day 3 at work now. I took up the morning shift, so I work from 9 to 1. 4 hours- a desk job, pretty good pay… couldnt really ask for more. Photoshop work for four hours does get a little dry, but it sure is worth it.

Went to LAN yesterday, and played Hard Rain.

Anyway, I found a new game being released march this year; All Points Bulletin. First impressions are of a GTA style MMO, and it looks great. According to the press, skill plays more of a role here, rather than having to spend time leveling up and shit. It also gives an awesome level of character customisation, something that i really like in a game. I find it really fun to have a choice between a generic criminal, or trying to build a virtual avatar of yourself in a game. (something i tried in Saints Row 2, and failed at)

Okay, enough text… video time!

Definitely going to buy it.

Faction-wise, you get to choose between criminal or law enforcement. I’m still not decided on which one to join.

Awesome view.

Since its very windy above deck, I got to use my hoodie alot.

I also pushed back the sleeves frequently, since it was quite cold below deck and I took to wearing it during almost all of my waking hours.

The cruise was a pretty good opportunity for getting a lot of scenic pictures. At one point (last picture), there was a single break in an otherwise cloudy sky, and the sun was pouring through that gap, illuminating a patch of ocean. I snapped a picture, and also took a video of it. (since the uppermost deck was, for some reason, deserted, i could record myself talking about the video without being too self-conscious.)

Cant really think of anything to say here.

Another Short Post

So im sitting back at home eating chips, basically doing nothing, and i realize- I have a blog! And I sort of should update it.

Anyway, Its about six hours after that epic revelation, and since its past one, ill probably post most of what i intend to tomorrow.

Got a crapload of pictures from the cruise, ill paste some here later. It was great. The buffet (actually, there are 3, but I usually go to that one) is on the upper deck, so thats food and a great view, all at once. The gym’s also on the upper deck, just across, so i used it about once a day.

I also had my birthday onboard! The staff brought a small cake and a card. Nice gesture :D

I been contemplating upgrading my graphics card, because its really the weak link on my pc. But i thought it over, decided to wait it out until next year.

Been working on that left 4 dead short story, that i recently dug up. Actually, I “dug up” the idea, and that’s about it. I seem to have lost the document i was working on, so im more or less starting from scratch. Stupid me.

Been drawing more stuff over the past few days. Some pictures didnt turn out right, so i ditched them, and others i had to erase bits and redo them like… 5 times? Annoying, but pays off. mostly. Oh, and still need to find a way to get them on my pc. I think I’ll borrow Dad’s camera.

Played some left 4 dead 2 survival mode with Glen just now. I found a map I really enjoy with that particular gamemode (scavenge is fun too!), but Glen didnt really feel like playing. We did play a couple of rounds, but he had to go afterwards… and playing with bots, is like trying to get a pig to fly. Honestly, those things seem dumber than they were in the original left 4 dead.

Oh, and I have some screenshots, so ill post them here.

Hm. I sort of realize i hardly ever post here anymore. Assuming i dont go out, i usually spend the day drawing, watching youtube, thinking up short stories to write and (of course) playing computer games.

Cant post any drawings here for now- i switched phones, and while the new one’s much better with its walkman features, the camera’s terrible. I ttried scanning, but i think the printer’s on the fritz. Again.

Anyway, I’m going on a 3 day cruise tomorrow. Adios!

The gerbils are the most recent newcomers to the house. They arrived a few weeks ago.

-Some pictures. Gerbils, unlike hamsters, are sociable creatures (hamsters are naturally solitary) and are quite trusting. They’ll actually run over and put their front paws on your hand, although they remain nervous about being picked up.

Left 4 Dead 2 at LAN yesterday. While fun, it was a bit of a letdown in some ways. Left 4 Dead’s original atmosphere was dark, depressing, and really suited the entire setting- having the entire game set at night was sort of a gimmick, but it worked out well. The new game just doesnt feels as immersive, more arcade-ish. Still, the new weapons were great fun to try- Im already hooked on the magnum pistol and the grenade launcher. The melee weapons may not always be practical, but their great fun to use (frying pan, anyone?)

Glen came over after and passed me Call of Duty- Modern Warfare 2. Its one of the best shooters ive ever played.

Looking forward to trying out versus mode in l4d2!

Bintan & Grad Night

Hola. Long time no post.

Went to bintan lagoon resort last week with my Dad’s side of the family. Great fun! Although being with 3 kids under 12 was a little exhausting.

Archery range…

…but this time, no chance to shoot.

A little disappointing- I missed out on stuff like jet-skiing (waters were too choppy) and paintball (no-one else wanted to go!), but Go-karting was fun.

These karts are wayyy better than the ones in Singapore, like in escape theme park. Unfortunately, they have a tendancy to stall out at the most inopportune moments. Like at the start of a race.

Few days later, Grad Night! Went there in my black jacket, found that half the guys there were in suits. I dont have any pictures with me- didnt bring my camera. Ryzal did a Michael Jackson performance that was damn good.

Day after, went to Sitex. (Yes, I know, picture is crap)

Bought a new mouse that I’d been wanting for a while. Microsoft Sidewinder X8. I was also considering the Razer Mamba, but I did a bit of research and found that the Mamba had a shorter battery life and a price that was almost double that of the former. After buying, I went outside and ate at the Burger King.

Well, not exactly at the Burger King- all the seats were full. So I sat on the sidewalk.

There’s something ironic about having eaten a 10- course meal at the Hilton just the day before.

Past few days have been a blast. I spent the time on LAN, reading books, drawing, and below, i completely redid my desktop- a 3 hour job, but who cares!? I have all the time in the world!

I used a new tool i found, Rainmeter, which provides the central clock and the sidebar (vista’s sidebar is crap.)

This watch caught my eye in the newspapers. I’d really like it, but unfortunately, it costs about $8000.

Used pencil and overlaid black pen to do this drawing. Inspired by Prototype/Gentek environments. May have messed up the door a bit.

Played at LAN twice the past few days. Still awaiting left 4 dead 2! Went on Saturday with Aijia, Weiyi and another friend, and on Monday, after CLB, with Jeremy. Using the, well, wrong map for survival mode, we kept moving, and managed to hold out for wayyy longer than we should have been able to.

The O-levels …its finally over! (well, Jeremy does have some chem, and I have clb listening compre on monday, but who cares?!)

Today was both awesome and, well.. painful. Painful because i think i overexerted myself at the gym yesterday. Not having exercised for an entire year might have had something to do with it… just a hunch.

Yesterday, i was sort of thinking… “I can feel myself strengthening!” Today: “I can hear my muscles crying!”

Came home today to my brand new game, Borderlands. A game that advertises itself as a Role-playing-shooter. It feels a little like fallout 3 at first, but there’s lots more focus on guns (87 billion!) and less on character customisation. There’s basically 4 to choose from- Mordecai, the Hunter; Lilith, the Siren; Roland, the Soldier; and Brick, the Berserker.

I tried out the soldier and the hunter and eventually ditched the soldier profile. Blargh. Enough talk, more pictures.

Aijia’s Birthday! Glen, TM, Aijia & me went to westcoast park to study and fly glen’s kite.

Glen & TM are great with it. It went really high, its that speck in the picture. In the middle. Me… im walking death to kites.

I enjoyed it, but I may have spent too much time in the open.

Okay, okay, Im exaggerating. Glen got it wayy worse than I did, his skin turned firey red. Tat ming… may have been just my eyes, but he just turned grey. Like, zombie-like. And from what I saw, Aijia didnt get it at all!

After the O’s… must go again. Just need to bring sunblock, or something.

Hello hello hello, long time no update. O-levels are coming up (F*CK!) and im counting down, not toward the O’s, but toward the date when the dark times are past, when the sun shall shine brightly, when LAN will be accessible again.

Last few days havent been all bad, though. The one hour or so I allow myself to play the PC have almost makes up for the rest of the day. Lately: Fallout 3! Why? I managed to get my copy working with two of the downloadable content packs: Broken Steel and Point Lookout. Took a bloody long time, but i think it was worth it.

I actually used a few TS3 screenshots, like this one, in my O level design journal- involved environmental analysis of ground surfaces. Yes, I was too lazy to run around outdoors taking snapshots, and i thought the sims 3 simulated terrain quite well.

Fallout 3: fighting off feral dogs with a baseball bat. No, i am not promoting cruelty to animals. I have a dog of my own! Both in real life, and in the game. (one companion you acquire is a dog. reminds me of that picture of jeremy’s dog i saw. damnit, im rambling again.)

One thing i noticed: how the hell does one fire a gun without an opening at the barrel?

Damnit, my blog’s ~~turning~~ turned into an exclusively game-focused journal. Okay… Change of pace. Study time!

Yesterday: did chemistry. Waded my way through the content on acids, bases, salts, qualitative analysis, and organic chem. Organic chem is still a rather shaky subject with me, and calculating moles and gas volumes are an utter mess here. It makes my head spin.

Today: did mainly geography and an E math paper 2. Stupid NIE’s! (geography.)

Anyhow, i do have a secret weapon that helps me study better, i think. Wait, if i reveal it its not a secret. Wait, i dont care.

tada! a whiteboard. May not seem like much, but i find writing with all that board to work with helps a lot. (took a psychology test, it said I was 80% kinaesthetic. maybe that affects it. i get to move around a bit more.)

***WARNING: if you're sick and tired of me posting Left 4 Dead related stuff here, you might want to skip this.***

Yes, I am still playing left 4 dead occasionally, although that stupid garena program only gets me in after the fourth time and even then the online community is like a ghost town. So i resort to playing alone. With bots. Not too bad.

Bots usually tag along with you though the level uncomplainingly, sharing health kits and pills with typical bot selflessness (or stupidity). They have good aim in general and will not, unlike some of the annoying, faceless garena users, unload 6 shotgun rounds into your ass and then complain that you wasted their ammo.

That said, however, bots can be mind numbingly stupid.

Scenario: I emerge from the sewers, with No Mercy Hospital right in front of me. All of us (that is, me and the 3 amigos) have health values of 90+; Tier 2 weapons; a health kit apiece. No sweat, right?

Wrong.

Zoey apparently slipped on the way up and is lying at the bottom, incapped. No problem, right? I’ll just stop next to this car with Louis and wait for Bill (who was also still downstairs) to help her up, then we all trot off to the saferoom for supper.

No can do, says Bill. He climbs up the ladder and promptly has a Hunter land on him. Before I can intervene, a smoker grabs me from behind.

Louis is still alright, isnt he? Logically, he’d kill the hunter, then free me, then we’ll go on to save zoey. However, he decides to go down and help zoey instead, despite the fact that all zoey had was a twisted ankle, and bill was getting his chest torn open and i was getting suffocated.

Louis got boomer crap on him in the sewers, swarmed, and we all died at around the same time.

I suppose it was partially my fault for missing the smoker, but I HAD GOOD REASON to believe i was home and dry!

^Okay, back at the start of the level. Zoey tripped and fell again, Bill is ...fixing the table leg, and Louis is taking a nap. The fact that I was extremely pissed off and had an assualt rifle is not relevant to the story.

I wanted to write about the Sims 3, but i checked my screenshots and found i didnt have enough content. (Actually, im using the terrain tools to simulate different ground types for my olevel design project.)

Lan & Baking

Lan was fun, as usual- completely different from playing at home by myself. We spent about 3 hours there: 3v2 versus mode, finishing the No Mercy and Blood harvest campaigns. (No Mercy’s getting old!)

Followed up with getting the stuff for baking. (Don’t ask me what they are- I screwed up my home econs royally) Then went to Abby’s house.

Played with the Wii over there, whilst trying to hold off a hyperactive, borderline psychotic dog called Oreo. I wasn’t too surprised at first, because most dogs I met jump about and bark alot when you arrive. But after about a minute or so, they usually calm down again. Not Oreo. He jumped up the table and drank my sprite, decided to help with the baking, snatched Weiyi’s sock and proceeded to eviscerate it, chewed up my leg and Glen’s arm, and damn near swallowed a fridge magnet. And I thought Nazi Zombies were scary.

Anyway, didn’t get to try the cookies because I had to rush off for physics tuition. Argh. Nevermind, Glen can help me cryogenically freeze it and transport it to me on monday.

Unrelated-

More class doodles. First 2 done in CLB lessons. What? I’m not trying to imply that those classes are utterly useless! Why would you even say that? I mean, New Town has such an efficient and useful administration!

Sarcasm aside, last one was done in Chem lessons (I actually do learn a good deal there, but they can get really dry.) This is probably one of my first serious attempts to draw something that doesnt involve carnage and destuction.

And no, that thing on the horizon is not a nuke!

This was one of the rare occasions where the number of special infected seemed to exceed the number of common infected. No tank, though. Everything consists of bot gameplay. If only LAN sessions could be recorded!

Nazi Zombies

Yeah, thats right… nazi zombies. ZOMBIE ARE EVERYWHERE Call of Duty 5 seems completely true to the entire World War 2 theme… except for the bit about Russians from the Red Army speaking in badly accented english, and Nazi zombies. Its a sort of side-mission that you get to play after completing the main storyline, “Nacht der untoten.” There are more maps avaliable, but using the… ah… un-not-illegal copy, Im stuck with the one map, until I find a way to get the rest.

Writing on the walls. Not much explanation for the undead, but the odd voodoo-like symbols in some of the rooms seem to tell their own story. The zombies are the more traditional shambling, moaning type rather than Left 4 Dead’s sprinters, but they more than make up for it with numbers and melee attacks that bring down the player in two hits.

Translation: “Move up the stairs… we’ve got lightbulbs.”

This isn’t like left 4 dead much. The zombies cast these looming shadows on the walls- it can be downright unnerving. I start with an M1911 pistol- it does the job at first, but after a few waves of undead, even the M1A1 carbine (I love this weapon) begins to feel inept. Left 4 Dead gives more adrenaline than horror, but Nazi Zombies is more of this foreboding, “oh… shit…” kind of feel. Still, I cant wait to play this after the O-levels. Hey, do they have this at LAN?

Team Fortress 2

Team Fortress 2 is quite unique. Its graphics seem more reminiscent of the Sims rather than CounterStrike, being cell-shaded and cartoony rather than realistic and gritty.. Like Gears of War or Left 4 Dead. I havent actually played it, but reviews and gameplay videos all seem to say its the kind of game you can just pick up and play.

Its been said before. Ill say it again. I. hate. studying.

Past few days have been utterly miserable, with the exception of the LAN session- that seemed like an oasis in the middle of a desert.

Daily schedule- Wake up, around 8. Breakfast. Dnt or SS and history. Afternoon- Math practise paper- Papers one and two, then something else- Takes me about 3+ hours. Night- One hour of computer time.

Some fucking holiday. Life doesnt even feel worth living now.

Well, even if there’s no reason to live, there sure isnt reason to die. At least there’s the movie outing next week to look forward to.

Its insanely cumbersome to get a single picture (low-res)! on the thing, let alone the hundreds i see other people putting on. I been playing with my phone’s camera more frequently as of late (new phone= fun!)

Macro setting is great for detailed stuff. Man, only now do I realize my old phone had no autofocus, and no macro settings.

Charles never, ever looks the camera straight. Its weird! Is he camera-shy, or what…? He’ll sort of look almost at the camera, then when I press the button, he moves his head away.

Friday, went to watch Push on Aijia’s laptop @ Pizza hut. Very cool. About people with powers- Pushers, Movers, Watchers, Stitchers, Shaders, and Bleeders. (although i found bleeders to look really annoying when they did their scream- it looked like they were freaking out.)

After that, went out with my family to watch X-men Origins. Also got my new phone, and it was my sisters birthday. (Gave her a 1 gb memory card)

New phone- the C510. Although it wasnt ideal, i think i really took to it.

X-men Origins was awesome! Although I found my focus wasnt really on Wolverine- I was more interested in his old spec ops team, with Victor Creed (his half-brother), the merc Wade, (the guy on the movie poster- uses 2 katanas) and Agent Zero. I guess i shouldnt spoil it for the rest of you, but definitely worth watching.

LAN on saturday was fun despite the earlier hassle (how could it not be?) Dead Air’s, Death Toll’s Versus modes were awesome. After the rest left, i stayed behind to play a bit of survival mode with Jeremy.

We managed to hit silver in the Blood Harvest Trainyards, and bronze in the Death Toll Cemetery (I hate it when my weapon runs out of ammo. The pistols feel like peashooters, ‘specially against tanks.)

I spent the rest of the weekend slacking off work (I earned it!) Played Fallout 3.

Ground Zero- Prologue, Pt 2

Part 2 up, guys! Its a continuation of the prologue, but i guess i should call it part 2, not the actual comic, since I havent gone into the details of the characters. Im not planning on doing the story of the Left 4 Dead protagonists, that was just a cameo- i dont want to screw up their personalities.

Im probably going to develop the others you saw- the guy on the roof, the lone sniper, the freerunning looter*, the guy hiding in the sewers, and ~~the guy by the police car.~~

Oh right, he’s dead. My bad.

Will probably introduce a few more with time. And the narrative would probably come in thought bubbles- that way, i can open up more on personalities without being limited to one perspective.

Prototype

Prototype again. I know, i know… but the second ground zero comic im working on is just 1/8 complete. Exams period; I use the computer for about an hour a day, after working my butt off for the entire afternoon and evening.

The first issue of the comic i churned out in one hour, minus time needed to edit and caption. Now im averaging just about 2 good pictures posed and taken per day. Crap!

I was thinking of putting in a work in progress screenshot of my comic, but i saw a video about how annoying spoilers could be, and realized, hey, yeah, they are quite annoying.

Decided to change the wallpaper. Halo and GTA San Andreas got old a while back, so they got punted out and replaced by Prototype- one, downloaded and cropped, and adjacent is my drawing, done during chinese lessons.

Saints Row replaced San Andreas, Left 4 Dead remains (well durr). Charles, my dog, remains too, and I replaced.. myself. Me (still taken in USA), being hit my a waterfall but magically staying dry! Amazing! No? Alright, alright…

Added final touches by using lighting adjustments on the picture, retaining most of the color but giving the entire thing a more even tone.

Other news: The Left 4 Dead survival pack is out, meaning more 2 versus maps for LAN, and my little l4d story doesnt seem to be making much headway, so im planning to turn to comics.

Yup, handphones. Its not that old, granted, being a HTC touch. I got it about 2 years ago.

Still, I need a new handphone, since my current one

-randomly cuts connection,
-shuts off my keyboard application,
takes naps (bloody annoying since switching the damn thing on needs about a whole minute.)

My parents don’t seem to mind that much; so, i have a few prospective phones in mind. (All sony ericsson. Most nokia phones seem either insanely expensive, or fall apart once the warranty runs out,)

They all look good. The T700 seems to have just the basics there; however, its the thinnest, and has a good camera and adequate music player functions.

The C510 has some nice camera functions; smile shutter, face detection, and autofocus, being a Cybershot phone. However, it is the thickest of the lot.

The real badass of the lot is the W902. Its thickness is okay, which came as a surprise. From front views i’d have expected this to be a monster of a phone, but it wasnt. It also features Walkman features like shakecontrol, Sensme, etc. And its camera was really surprising; 5 megapixels, even better than the Cybershot.

Now for a completely unrelated gmod video!

The.. breakfast incident at 3:00 was hilarious. I know, retarded physical humor, but hilarious nonetheless.

Prototype

Stumbled onto a new game, while looking in wikipedia for Sandbox-genre games. Game name: Prototype. Its due for release this June, so i don’t have long to wait. Looking at the pre-release art, concepts, video, it looks really awesome.

Plot: Protagonist/Anti hero, Alex Mercer, wakes up in a morgue, with no memory of events prior. Blah blah blah… Ta da! You got ~~mail!~~ Superpowers.

These superpowers are focused around controlling Alex’s biomass, allowing him to shape his arms into whip-like tendrils, sledgehammers, or a five foot blade, like the on on the box cover.

Appearance-wise, Alex, (while not in combat) reminded me of the hunter in Left 4 Dead. Same hood, and even a similar style of movement, allowing powerful leaps and jumps, although Alex certainly seems to have a wider selection of weapons.

Saints Row 2.. again

Saints row 2, again, because i still dont have my hands on the underwater scuba pictures and because i have a bit more sr2 content.

That crazy african dude is leader of a drug ring. “Mr. Sunshine.” Apparently, he dabbles in voodoo. If i’d been in that situation, i think i’d have been really freaked out.

I took this video with fraps and uploaded it about 5 minutes ago. I guess i could have found other people’s videos with the same cutscene, but every character is custom created, so they’d all be different, maybe in terms of race, gender, looks, etc.

Scuba

Went to tioman this weekend, for… *dramatic pause* Scuba Diving! Dad fixed up the prior lessons about 2 weeks before. 2 theory lessons, 2 practical sessions in a pool with the SCUBA equipment (yes, a bit lame, but first-timers have to start somewhere).

The road trip there was pleasant; i had packed snacks, drinks, and books. Oh, and my mp3 player. (i hated the music on the radio.)

Then, one night’s rest about wrapped up friday; no dives that day. Saturday was the main dive day; little preamble, we just got on the boat, waited until we were in open waters.

Me and Dad, on the upper deck of the boat. The boat itself has three- wait, four- sections. first, lower back- holds all the scuba equipment, and opens out into an openingblarrrgghppttthph

The first dive was gut clenching, i dont know how else to describe it. Stepping off the boat into open water feels somehow stupid; even though the air tank floats in water, it weighs a ton, and my gut instinct told me i would sink like a stone upon contact with the water. Of course, it didnt happen. The next hurdle is the act of breathing underwater; scuba gear only allows for breathing through the mouth, and doing it while submerged, somehow doesn’t feel like breathing at all. First two times that day, it was downright unnerving, but it got better and better- by the last dive, i dont think i noticed at all.

The last dive of the trip was, by far, the best. The surroundings seemed more rich with coral than the previous trips; we (Dad, Ben, and I) saw a shoal of fish circle us about 3 times before darting away, we saw a really huge sea cucumber, but the best part of that dive was touching a turtle that swam past us underwater. Ben pointed it out, and i brushed my fingers against its shell as it swam away. It felt somewhat feathery, and smooth- not what i’d expected.

Sorry, forgot to clarify.

Left to right- Me, Dad, and Ben. Ben was our instructor and dive leader. Very competent and comfortable in the water.

Cat. There were lots of cats around the living quarters (on land) but i kind of liked this one. It seemed more friendly than the rest, and even let me carry it around a bit.

Second versus session, and some more Fail

Had more versus mode today, but only with 7 people. I failed to fill up the last slot! Epic fail! Not really, i tried asking about 3 people (not including jeremy), but all couldn’t make it.

Okay, Lan-

Fun, but playing through the same levels again.. it felt a little repetitive. Of course, there were the fun moments, like getting pwned by witches, punching people clean off mercy hospital as the Tank… but it couldnt hide the fact that the levels were, essentially, identical. Jeremy was a -great team player, ‘specially as the infected, i found- the best bit was with those situations where, say, Aijia would boomer the survivors first, then Jeremy and me would do smoker snags and Hunter pounces in the midst of the inevitable horde.

Oh well, the ”repetitive level” problem would be solved soon, Valve’s releasing the updates soon, which will open up 2 new levels (deathtoll and deadair) for versus, and will provide a new mode: Survival Mode.

Survival Mode: barricade, load up, summon horde, and try to last as long as you can. Sounds great. I’ll have to wait and see.

I dont have any pictures of LAN, as usual. I wish i could take screenshots at the lan, but no dice. Aijia’s blog had the more conventional handphone picture of the hunter, but my phone is utterly spastic when it comes to capturing digital screens.

Now for some Epic fail!

Alright… okay, lots of stuff to blog about. That’s something to be said for procrastination, anyway.

Friday! Glen’s Party. I had to go to school first. Nothing cool about that. Then i went to the clementi MRT, met Glen, TM, Kel, Aijia, the group. (to jeremy.. sorry you weren't there..) And then to the LAN- by far the best part of the day. Straight-up 4 vs 4 Left 4 Dead, Versus mode. We were all mixed up into random teams, so there was a lot of on-the-fly adjustments to plans that were hardly there in the first place, yelling back and forth over the speakers. Memorable moments, such as the one where my team, infected, ambushed the Survivors ten seconds after they left the saferoom. Boomer bile everywhere; one blinded, one snagged by a smoker and two taken by hunters.. a thing of beauty!

They got their payback, though. Situation- Glen, helping an incapitated tat ming, me hovering anxiously.. the relief when all of us were back on our feet, and finally, turning around and seeing a Tank crouched in the doorway. Just for good measure, a boomer popped in. Needless to say, none of us made it.

Then, went to Vivo to see.. Push! ..Yeah, i wish. Apparently due to timing problems, we got stuck with Dragonball Evolution. Pbbth. It was, no matter how you look at it, a flop.

I mean, i could actually mouth the stuff before they said it. “the power is inside you!” “be at one with yourself!” To give it some credit, they did try for a plot twist at the end, with the main dude (Gookoo?) being the monster, but it was half-hearted at best. The combat scenes at the beginning were okay (i liked the one where the bullies got pounded) but if i wanted that, i’d have gone for the matrix. Anyway, to sum it up, epic evil (some Picolo. Sounds like a stuffed toy.) …Protagonist! Turns out to be hidden evil! Wins battle, gets the girl, end movie.

2 Days later, Sunday..

CIP. It was cooler than Flag Day, at least, except for the organization, which was… sad. The scenario had a terrorist call and say he had planted multiple bombs around St James power station (opposite Vivo, lol). And then the participants, or should i say, volunteered.. were led outside, reeeeaaally slooooowly. (“stay calm,” they said, but half my class was asleep.) Outside, though, a parked car detonated. No shock wave, it just started to burn. Bit unrealistic, but well, it was cool.

L4D Survival Story…

25 June, 6am

Spent a restless night trying to get a call through to my family, the cops, anyone. No signal, nothing. I started packing about 5am. What I got with me:
Satchel with:
-13 chocolate bars, one half-open
-two bottles of mineral water
-cell phone, with the A/C charger (maybe I’ll get lucky later)
-Black marker
-Extra shirt, extra pants

Me- wearing my favorite black shirt with a grey hoodie, plus jeans. Got my digital watch, and spectacles. …I wish I didn’t need to wear specs.
I really want a gun, but all I have is my stupid 5-year old BB pistol, with no pellets in it to boot. I need to get to the gun store, but something tells me its already been plundered. Will there be anything left for me? I wish I had that Tombstone shotgun I saw in the store window a couple months back. That thing’s nice.
For now, all I have is a crowbar I found in the storeroom. I have no idea if those infected things can withstand that. But if I get swarmed like that poor guy in the car, I know for a fact I’m not gonna last.
I scrawled a message on the wall, leaving my name and the date.
I should be setting off. Now or never, I suppose.

More reports of infection- nobody I know personally, though.

According to radio reports, some naturally possess immunity, while others may be able to contract the virus through blood poisoning. The third category is for those who can contract the virus through airborne contact, though there’s no way to tell the difference- for now.

Im going to stay put up here, on the fourth storey. Ive got my emergency fire escape. Most of the town’s been stockpiling food and barricading their basements. No way am I doing that. Bloody claustrophobia… I never can stand enclosed spaces.

The streets below look mostly deserted, but I locked my doors with my bike chain, to be sure. Those lame horror movies always have the calm before the storm- does life imitate art? (or is it the other way round, i forgot)

The entire damn town’s gone nuts! I woke up today, looked out the window, and saw about fifteen people just wandering around the road. Not on the sidewalks, but on the tarmac. I distinctly saw one or two lying in the middle of the road. Definitely illogical, but then things got way worse.

This 92’ Chevy comes barrelling down the road, swerves to avoid a bunch of the.. people.. on the road. The driver must’ve been loony, drunk or panicked, because he hit a lamppost and careened into another parked car.

The car alarm went off. It was like someone flicked a switch- all the people on the road scrambled toward the wreck, and began to swarm over the driver side, gibbering and screaming. I didn’t stay to watch. I tried calling my family on my mobile, but nobody’s picking up.

Im not staying here.

I have a few more survival entries in my hard drive, but since my writing times are really inconsistent, ill just keep them "in reserve", as it were.

Got a new Gerald Durrell book! "Fillets of Plaice." Its a really funny account of the author's childhood. (its the same author as the sec 1 lit textbook.)

Taki nosed the benzina into the bay at a fair speed and so was upon the sand bar before he realized it. We came to a sudden and shuddering halt. At that precise moment Mother was standing in the stern admiring the sunset so the boat's sudden halt threw her off balance and she fell overboard. Though she occasionally deigned to lie in shallow water in very hot weather, she could not swim. This everybody knew, so in unison the entire company leapt overboard to rescue her- including Spiro, who couldnt swim either. The result was complete and utter chaos. Donald and Max dived on top of one another and banged their heads together.

Im trying to keep my mind off school- so ive been writing my Survivor story. A more serious view than i usually post on l4d/gmod etc. Only trouble is, i dont really know how to post it.

Option 1- (my favorite, looks-wise) get a computer scan of paper and post it like that, giving it a more authentic feel.

Past few days been getting weirder, TVs an’ radios been screaming bout some pandemic. Mindless aggression spreading though an estimated 70% of the population.

Havent seen much unusual in the past few days, but I did hear some rumors about my apartment neighbour downstairs- Mr. Benson- suffering symptoms. Then he disappeared.

Word is, he started running around and biting people, until the police apprehended him. Never saw it, but I haven’t seen Mr. Benson in a while. Is is just a rumor?

I hope things stay calm until I can get back home to Wyoming. (I’m studying abroad.)

Left 4 Dead- more stuff

I went to the LAN with Jeremy and Chong Kiat today. Rupert was supposed to come- but from what i get, the math teacher, Ms Lily Ng, decided to hold some stupid ATP/ test. Bloody hell. So it was Left 3 Dead (ha! ha! ha!) and Chong Kiat, however you look at it, was rather.. amataurish. He had his moments, but frankly, it was like trying to cart a Ming vase through a battle zone.

I really wanted to post some l4d comics here, but i still cant find the maps i need. The one i used last round (gm_atomic) just will not cut it for what i want, location and building-wise. And the bright, happy environments from default gmod maps give the totally wrong atmosphere. I think ill just wait till i get them.

Still, haven't come posting empty handed! I found a really funny (i think) l4d comic. Look at Bill (extreme right) with the molotov and the "peace" hand symbol.

And lastly.. im thinking of writing some kind of a l4d survivor journal. Like- a log of some random survivor. Itll be interesting to try to get into the psyche of someone who, say, has to ride it out alone, or kill infected friends or family. Just a thought.

Left 4 Dead- Meet the Survivors

Yup, thats the comic, "Survivor side." I wanted to do the infected, but i still need to get some props downloaded.

Actually, i was planning to post the second panel by itself, as a more art kind of thing, but then i decided to try to make it a story, a bit like one of those finale events in the real game (hold out on a roof and wait for rescue, like that, after signalling for help.) The phone thing is a little like what i would have thought would happen in left 4 dead, instead of proceeding to mercy hospital for evac, why not just use a handphone and have the chopper come to you? I mean, its not like there were a whole lot of people waiting for rescue anyway.

The 6th panel was a pain in the ass to pose. I wanted a major explosion, with flame and sparks leaping around, but it didnt turn out well. So i dumped a bunch of oil barrels in one place, then blew it up and tried to grab a screenshot at the same time. Didnt go well either, the barrels just flew away. So in the end i froze the barrels in mid air, and added a stupid rocket just for the hell of it.

Just got an email from my uncle, in Brunei. Quite funny kid misinterpretation of the Bible.

"A child was asked to write a book report on the entire Bible. This is amazing and brought tears of laughter to my eyes. I wonder how often we take for granted that children understand what we are teaching???

The Children's Bible in a Nutshell
In the beginning, which occurred near the start, there was nothing but God, darkness, and some gas. The Bible says, 'The Lord thy God is one, but I think He must be a lot older than that.

Anyway, God said, 'Give me a light!' and someone did.

Then God made the world.
He split the Adam and made Eve. Adam and Eve were naked, but they weren't embarrassed because mirrors hadn't been invented yet.

Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating one bad apple, so they were driven from the Garden of Eden.....Not sure what they were driven in though, because they didn't have cars.

Another important Bible guy is Moses, whose real name was Charlton Heston. Moses led the Israel Lights out of Egypt and away from the evil Pharaoh after God sent ten plagues on Pharaoh's people. These plagues included frogs, mice, lice, bowels, and no cable.

God fed the Israel Lights every day with manicotti. Then he gave them His Top Ten Commandments. These include: don't lie, cheat, smoke, dance, or covet your neighbor's stuff.
Oh, yeah, I just thought of one more: Humor thy father and thy mother.

One of Moses' best helpers was Joshua who was the first Bible guy to use spies. Joshua fought the battle of Geritol and the fence fell over on the town.

There were also some minor league prophets, but I guess we don't have to worry about them.
After the Old Testament came the New Testament. Jesus is the star of The New. He was born in Bethlehem in a barn. (I wish I had been born in a barn too, because my mom is always saying to me, 'Close the door! Were you born in a barn?' It wouldbe nice to say, 'As a matter of fact, I was.')

During His life, Jesus had many arguments with sinners like the Pharisees and the Democrats.
Jesus also had twelve opossums.
The worst one was Judas Asparagus. Judas was so evil that they named a terrible vegetable after him.

But the Democrats and all those guys put Jesus on trial before Pontius the Pilot. Pilot didn't stick up for Jesus. He just washed his hands instead.

Other news- Valentine's Day was yesterday. Wasnt really expecting the school to celebrate it, since i always thought it was more of a western tradition, but my class did.

Left 4 Dead parody. It was racist, sexist and damn funny.

Also, i played left 4 dead with glen yesterday, in versus mode. meaning, we got to play as infected. Awesome! Not as common horde, but as hunters, tanks- the works. I killed 3 in a row with my hunter, ending off with glen. He must have returned the favor a fair bit, too. I found versus was really a lot more tactical, espcially as infected- you had to coordinate strikes, bring down stragglers and lone wolves, and hit vulnerable points.

Screenshot. Im the hunter- see, the targeting recticle is different. Francis was basically screwed, since their team was completely scattered. Sure enough, i ripped him apart and moved on to Bill a few seconds later.

I just saw Red vs. Blue- Relocated released. Maybe i dont know too many people who like it, but i am addicted to it. Im viewing ep 1 now..

Jeremy and I went to play L4D at the LAN center yesterday! It was awesome, but i coudnt get any screenshots. Damnit. Also, the staff charged me $0.40 more than Jeremy!

I got a really awesome moment there too. A hunter was just about to pounce me, but i pulled out my hunting rifle and shot it in mid air! I think it caught him in the neck, killing him. There was some luck involved, though. The lag at the LAN centers really screws with my hunting rifle, so i just as welll might not have pulled it off. Still, it looked badass.

Jeremy had a "sonofabitch!" moment, when he switched on his light full in the face of a zombie. Still, the zombie got the worst of it- 12- gauge automatic shotgun to the face!

I ended up startling quite a few witches. One bit was when i shot her from the stairwell of an office cubicle, then ran like hell for the 2nd storey. I shoudnt have bothered- the damn thing is fast.

Left 4 Dead with Glen, just finished up.

Took about 60 screenshots, narrowed down. Played through Dead Air and Death Toll. Really fun!

I stayed away from my fav weapon, the hunting rifle. Its badass, but is completely spastic during lag. I stuck to the M4 Carbine, the Automatic shotgun and the Uzi. Glen, as usual, ran ahead, startled almost every damned witch, and got pounced by hunters so many times i lost count. It was funny, though.

Saints Row 2- Pictures!

Above (im getting tired of typing that) my own custom character. Brawler melee style, leader of the Saints (a gang), Hispanic (mexican) voice. Theres 6 voices to choose from. 3 from each gender. Male: One British, one African American, One mine. Female: 1 i have no idea, one sounding vaguely like zoey from l4d, one sounding like she got a post it note stuck in her throat.

I got a screenshot of matching in-game cinematic footage. That guy's Johnny Gat, by the way. He buried a guy alive in one of the last missions (revenge for killing his girlfriend.)

Saints Row is a lot more ruthless than Grand Theft Auto. Another of my previous missions had one of my gang lieutenants, Carlos, tied to the back of a truck and dragged around the city. And Carlos didnt even do anything- it was done by a rival gang to make a point. My character tried to save him, but failed, and had to euthasise..eutnasis, whatever. Nasty business, so my character retailated by burning off one of their guy's hands with fireworks. Ouch.

I felt like in GTA SA, you never were really in danger. There, only Big Smoke and Ryder died, and they were traitors anyway. It was like the developers tried too hard to make a happy ending, but it didnt really work out. In SR2, its like you really feel a sense of constant peril around- id imagine it to be more of the geniune gang situation.

I haven't updated my blog in a while. Today's post- Saints Row 2!

A bit of introduction- SR2 is really just a ripoff of GTA. That said, its a really awesome ripoff. Its like one took all the good stuff from gta 4 and gta san andreas and threw it all together. Unlike the more realsitic, gloomy atmosphere of gta 4, Saints Row 2 is more colorful, mindless, immature, and flat-out fun.

Car mods are better than those in San Andreas, (they were almost nonexistent in gta 4)

Above is a heavily modded car. I customised headlamps, the hood (not "da 'hood"), added a spoiler, rims, custom hubcaps, nitrous, kneecappers, etc.

Me, on foot, blowing up a gas station. Your character is also insanely customizable. At the start, you can choose race, gender, skin color, hair color, hair style, eye color, skull width and depth, jaw size, etc. clothes you buy get color edits too.

You can stick your arm out of your car and fire in a 360° arc, using submachine gun, pistol, and thrown explosives, like flash grenades, molotovs, and pipe bombs.

Of course, one gets to experience ragdoll physics like in gmod, half life 2 or left 4 dead. Really fun when cops are in the way and you just punt them away with the hood of your car.

Sadly, the car's damage system seems somewhat inferior to GTA 4's. the cars dont really get crunched, they just dent or lose little pieces.

Even though my video card's a nVidia 9600 gs, with 768 dedicated vram, (one of the best avaliable in a non-DIY computer) I cant run the really nice settings such as dynamic lights and shadows. Its a bit of a slap to the face, or in my case, to the screen, but still, its not too bad.

One really, REALLY annoying thing is this fucking popup. My computer keeps telling me to replace my battery, even though the mouse is working fine! then it keeps popping up in game, then i have to alt-tab out and get rid of it. Stupid thing. I tried everything, unchecking remind me later, clicking help. And help doesnt do a damn thing. Not as in its bad help. Its non-existent! at least my old razer mouse never gave me this kinds of crap.

Went to my first LAN game today. Afiq invited me to go with Fu Wei and Jing Da. Caught me a little off-guard, since I never was Mr. popular in class, but i went anyway. I did enjoy myself, but they wernt.. true friends, really. Its the kind of "clique" situation where if you say something dumb, it gets blown up- perhaps not a big deal, but still there.

We played some DOTA (defense of the ancients) first. Its apparently the big game around these days, but i didnt really like it that much. I ended up just scrambling to pick up the game, and didnt really enjoy it in the end. I did manage to get a really, really lucky double kill at the end.

What i really enjoyed was the Left 4 Dead session we had after. All 4 of us, fighting through zombie hordes, trying to grab medkits and morphine before the other guy did. I dont think they knew the game that well, so i ended up being the cartographer. I got 112 kills, top zombie killa! (next guy- Jingda? got 60 kills). Alright, alright, im bragging abit, but i dont care!

There was one really funny incident on a 1st storey rooftop in L4D.

Afiq, (1st time playing l4d) fell off the roof. So, I panicked and jumped down after him, intending to use my medkit on him. Unfortunately, I didnt see it was too high, so I ended up like him- in the "downed" position, or prone and unable to do anything (like after injury).

I looked at him. He looked at me.

JingDa did the smart thing and took the ladder down to rescue us (fortunately, there was a lull in the zombie onslaught.) He revived us both and healed Afiq, then we all went climbed back up to the roof.

Then Fu Wei fell down in the exact same spot.

We debated leaving him there, but eventually went back for him.

Then the Witch incident. I had initially told them about the Witch and how she was to be avoided, but the stupid *itch was sitting in the way of a very narrow corridor we needed to pass.

Me: "aw, what the hell." *blam!*

*backpedals frantically*
*gets knocked down, then beaten up like crazy*

Me: "aw, what the f*ck!? Shoot her, shoot her!"

All in all, a pretty cool LAN session. Total cost- $3.60. Stupid economy.

Hmm.. Im really going into Gmod, Half life 2, and related Valve games. 3 years back, that would have been unthinkable, seeing that i was hardcore Halo fan, but its lost its luster. I cant remember the last time I went into Halo Trial, which is really lame now, given ragdoll physics, High Dynamic Range, etc. Still, i hold fast to my belief that Halo 1 was a really great game- it managed to hide its technical shortcomings and introducted seamless, 3d vehicle usage in a period when others were still using 2d Super Mario- *cough*

Okay, off-topic. What i was going to say, before i was rudely interrupted.. by myself... was that im really doing lots of gmod stuff now. I did another gmod comic (comments, please!) involving Gman in the office.

Yesterday was reonion dinner. In onion there is strength! HAHAHAHAHAHa

..No? ok.. A bit early for a reunion dinner, but i dunno. Ask my parents. Anyway, since the younger cousins really seem to like me- or like bugging me- its was a bit tiring. Its not too bad, i guess, since they're nice kids, but still- really hyper. My cousin, Carissa, also had her birthday. Energy expended in 5 hours: 933,342,733,733,788 joules.

So, today, I realized- OSHIT! chinese tuition, and I hadnt done my work. Panicked, and managed to rush all my work (chinese compre, 听写, 习字, and prepared my textbook.) Then, about 10 minutes from tuition time, tutor called, said she was sick.

RRRGHGRHRHRGHRHGRHRGRGG*&^%$##!!!!

Also, turns out Anne doesnt really want people other than her friends reading her blog.. so i removed her link. No offense, guys.

So, for the past 2 hours? I went into gmod, did some comics. Dunno if they're lame, or what. Feedback appreciated, but cut me some slack; this is my first try.

***Rant Ahead. Again.***

Hey all! Its.. 16 January! 2009. Rant day. Again.
... Blarrgh. Whatever.

Respect. I keep thinking about it. Like how some teachers always tell you that you gotta respect them, for completely crapped-up reasons, ..like they're older and more experienced, and your *only* a student.

Truth is, far as i've experienced, respect is something you choose to do, subconsciously or consciously. A person *truly* respects other people because he or she looks up to them, admires their qualities, or had been suitably impressed by something they did.

Forced respect, on the other hand, is a twisted perversion of *true* respect, from my point of view. For example, Person A ("A" for "asshole)" can force another person to bow and fall to their knees every time they meet, by using threats or force.

I feel this only serves to appease A's sense of pride, or positive feeling of being "Mr. Big." But hey- the person forced to do the bowing, or kneeling, or whatever it is, probably doesn't feel any true respect in his or her heart. Rather, their probable feeling would be fear, or hatred, or resentment.

I respect some people. I respect my friends, and some teachers, like Mr Benjamin Tan. His lessons were great. He was funny, and yet could control the class if needed. I feel he also didnt look down on students- like instead of ordereing me around to get my shirt in, he explained why he felt that way, saying it was "Dressing for the occasion." Perhaps i didnt agree, but i still respected him for that. Mrs Cheryl Goh was also a great teacher- she was probably the best teacher i had in New Town so far. Inspiring, perhaps a little strict, but definitely fair. She was perhaps the best math teacher i had so far. I respect my friends too for who they are.

Still, i feel that other people dont deserve respect. That security guard at my school, for example. I dont look down on her for her job. But the way she orders students around, telling them to go around this way, tuck in the shirt, take out earphones- I cant stand that. Its not like she probably even knows why those rules are there. For example, i drew up this little diagram below on how i prefered my own route, the green one, and how the guard forces everyone to go the other way, orange route. I mean, look at it. The route i go by would actually be safer, since i only need to cross once. But the "approved" route forces me to cross twice- once to get to the starting orange arrow, and another to get across.

And even then its not the walking that pisses me off- its the way she has to order students around. I guess it would be too disturbing to see everyone leaving the school gates though the freakin main entrance- she would rather see the students go by the damn sidewalk. She even enforces the rule when there isnt a damn car in sight, and if there's one thing i cant stand, its pointless bureaucracy. I mean, whats going to happen? A plane drops out of the sky and flattens me? And, folks, she enjoys her job. Thats the kind of thing i cant stand. Remember when she *praised* me? "GOOoood boy." Like i needed that. In fact, i hate that. Thats talking down to someone.

Hi, all. Havent updated in a while.

***Warning- Rant ahead***

Im going to let off a bit of steam. Of course, i may have previously done so unconsciously, but im going to slam some stuff i dont like, so it may come across as me bitching.

1) School. Things that piss me off- bossy teachers, principals and the like. Hell, even the security guard's hopped on the bandwagon lately. I enter/leave school and she's immediately saying, "boy, take off that earphones, cross the street on this side, tuck in your shirt."

For the record, I comply most of the time, but what really irritated the hell out of me was when she actually said "goood boy."- in that wretched voice most people reserve for training animals. I actually shot back at her, "dont talk to me like a dog!" It felt good, but no change in her, so it was more or less a wasted outburst.

For certain people, I dont care about being praised any more. I'd settle for being ignored.

Next is something that i really hate. Ive probably said it before, and i'll say it again- i dont give a shit about uniforms. In the USA, kids dont have goddamn uniforms, let alone rules about how they have to wear them. At most, they have a couple of rules, like no indecent exposure, no tattoos, the like. Those, at least, have logic and reason. Those, i can respect. Those are guidelines that give students room and freedom to express their own preferred look.

Singaporean schools, on the other hand, go by conformity. For the fat cats at the top, there's apparently something comforting about seeing everyone wearing the same uniforms, wearing them the same way. Going into the same school. Filtering in and out of the school gates like copies of one another.

On one level, i can understand the wish for conformity. I can see something pleasant, say, when i see a stack of foolscap lined up on a shelf, stacks of lined paper ready for usage. But people arent stacks of writing paper. They arent worker drones, or labour units, unless they allow themselves to become that way. I believe that individuality in people should be encouraged, expressed. Of course, uniforms arent enforced all the time, fortunately. But hey, take this conformity thing too far, one day everyone's gonna end up as a bunch of freakin clones.

I kinda typed this when i was rather pissed off, so if i made some sort of bumble, or wrote something illogical, post in the cbox. Im willing to accept correction. Logical correction, about my rant, not my grammar.

On a different note, Glen & I have been debating about Far Cry 2

..Vs Crysis.

I prefer Far Cry 2 over Crysis, Glen vice versa.

Far Cry 2:

-More immersive environment (i feel)
-Innovative use of that environment (E.g, start a bush fire, al a molotov, and let the wind carry it over to your opponents, therefore clearing out a camp, etc)
- Weapons deteriorate over time. Realistic weapon jams and malfunctions will occur in old equipment, and a pistol once blew apart (ASPLODE!) in my hand after a particularly bad jam.
-When damaged, you can use a variety of ways to regain lost health. Use a pliers to pry out a bullet, push a dislocated thumb back into position, pull a branch from your leg after a bad fall. There's also malaria pills and bottles of water for physical upkeep.
-Buddy system. Computer controlled 'friends' will help to back you up when you go down, offer you intel on a mission. In return, you can do favors for them. (If you like playing alone, you can kill them off, at the expense of your cutting off possible jobs and mission stories.)
-Storyline- you be a merc, foo'. Fo' shizzle. After yo' be infected wit' malaria, you work for weapons and monies and malaria pills to hold the sickness at bay.

- Of course, it does have shortcomings. Glen says the feel of the game gets repetitive after some time. I didnt really feel that, but the game's artifical intelligence does get a little stale after some time. (the best AI system i saw so far was in Left 4 Dead. Ironic, since its a zombie game, but L4D really hit the nail on the head with its dynamic zombie placements, and created really tense moments when avoiding witch etc.)

Crysis.

-I found its nanosuit system to be unique, but it just didnt work out for me. (The suit in crysis allows for 4 different modes- strength, armor, speed, and stealth.) Trouble was, they became little more than novelties in combat, since armor was the only real practical one for me.

-Personally, i hated the surroudings and storyline from crysis. Fighting North Koreans in state of the art nanosuit equipment seemed really dumb to me, especially since all you were fighting for was to just rescue a few dumb hostages. Then, out of the blue, the developers decided to throw a bunch of damn aliens into the mix! Even at the start of the mission, i found that the game didnt manage to capture the whole "war" setting. Granted, the island was idyllic. It was almost something you saw out of a holiday commercial. Trouble started with the war. Guns going off in that type of environment just didnt cut it. 2 games that i feel really managed to capture their themes were Left 4 Dead and FC2- for me, crysis just pales in comparision.

-Crysis perhaps was a cut ahead in terms of game engine and graphic quality.. but for me, somehow, its not the game i would look forward to playing after a day at school.

yea, it COULD have been 32, since i heard this year would be extended by one second in the newspapers. Im STILL playing games non-stop. Glen's been trying to teach me some Wiremod on Gmod. I have no idea how he learnt it himself- CPU's, Logic Gates, advanced secondary inputs, and constant values. I did manage to get an automated turret working, and used wiremod to enable my jeep to lift itself out of water, or at least hover across the surface.

Alright, this here is wiremod. Still makes my head spin. No, Jeremy, not literally.

Star Wars, Knights of the Old Republic. Not a bad game for an RPG, but i cannot stand the fact the developers had to put subtitles for absolutely everything. Like this droid.

Christmas is in 2 days or so! Merry Christmas, all. Spent the last week trying my best to avoid working. Stupid O-levels; my parents think i should already be revising. Maybe so, but hey- it isnt even Christmas yet. Anyway, not much done yet in gmod- ive been working more on doors and traps than on ragdolls.

MY HEAD ASPLODE

My new com can also run halo 2 fabulously. I maxed out all the settings, and its still running at over 80 frames per second. (typical frames per second for a smooth game: about 30- 40.) I screen captured some stuff. Its about as graphics-intensive as half-life 2 or gmod (dependant on settings). Gmod also gives similar framerates.

I went to Glen's place yesterday, played Left 4 Dead with him & Aijia. His computer, unlike mine, runs it flawlessly. Great framerates, detail, ragdoll physics. Glen's style: Rush forward, blast only zombies in front of you, and to hell with any idiot survivor who cant run as fast. Aijia picked up quite fast- seemed to twitch and shoot moving objects alot. If it moves, shoot it. If it don't move, shoot it anyway! I personally dont know how i play very well; only that i prefer to hang back, snipe, and clear a path if possible.

Left 4 Dead- Stuff i learned so far.

Smoker: Armed with a tongue the length of the Effiel Tower, and apparently of similar strength. Bloody guy is quite annoying, since he doesnt even need to expose himself to strike.

Hunter: Guy with a gray pullover. Thinks he's spiderman, and trouble is, he's right, except for a distinct lack of web. Maybe he could attach smokers to his wrists, use their tongues instead.

Boomer: Really, really bad hairstyle and shirt. Did i mention he blows up when shot? He does.

Tank: 2.5 tons of muscle (Mr Chan), steroids and badass. Throws concrete at survivors, or vice-versa.

Witch: Switch the "W" with a "B". Seriously, all she does is cry, then when you so much as try to brighten things up (With flashlight or molotov, if your the extremist type.) she immediately runs toward you, and starts clawing the shit out of you. Not good.

Other news, HP is hurrying up with my order, ETA tommorow. Gotta thank my uncle for that. Only problem this time (seems to have many ''only problems'') is that the geniuses that work in shipping decided to ship me only my CPU.

My damn Razer mouse is acting up again. So far, its had just 3 buttons, all of which have, at one point, intermittently messed up. My only comfort is that they only screw up on a "one at a time, please" basis.

Anyhow, I solved my latest scroll wheel issue by completely removing the rubber outer coating of the mechanism. Stupid $49.90 mouse.

Tried out Gmod* with Glen yesterday, after he and Kelvan came over to pass me the relavent stuff. We encountered problems connecting, and by the time Glen found the solution, poor guy nearly lost all his hair, or so he says.

We were originally going to play L4D with Jeremy, but he couldnt run it. So me and Glen just fooled around on Gmod, building lifts, traps, and other stuffs, and took a couple of pictures. Gmod works a lot better than l4d on my com, so maybe jeremy can use it too.

Last change, this time to the cbox. Im trying a more tech- style, but if anyone really hates it, or if it causes health warnings, or sudden asplosion syndromes? Post in the cbox and tell me whats wrong with it, and i may change it. May.

Today was really packed. First, in the morning, Jeremy came over, tried out Left 4 Dead. And the way he played- ill just say i really hope a zombie apocalyse doesnt occur in his lifetime. And if it does, ill give him a gun without any ammo.

After about an hour, i rushed off to Vivo, met Glen, Tat Ming, Aijia, Marisa. I wount even mention my hair, but my contact lens gave me a real load of trouble. After lunch, we went to a com shop and freeloaded off the games, Devil may cry 4 and Gears of War 2. I didnt really know much about the former, but really enjoyed the latter. The chainsaw bayonet is one hell of a weapon.

May have a couple of design flaws, though.
And Glen, no, you do NOT hold the chainsaw itself!

Saw Bolt. Not as in "chainsaw-saw" but you know what i mean. Cute, but it was no Wall-E. (is that "WALLE"? or "wall.e"?)

Returned to the com shop; More Gears. Tat Ming's leg needed rest.. actually, i think we all did. So we stopped at the Burger King, and had coke.

Me + Glen + Coke= Ice wars. Out of boredom, a straw tower was created!

Off to play L4D with Glen.

I pulled together, blended and swapped a new blog picture. This one now fits the stupid blogger border, which i actually prefer. Looks a lot more centralized and stuff. The picture, i tried to get it a bit more black and white, to fit with the blog's general theme. Im not emo or anything, honest!

Okay..

Top right hand corner, "We are the Meta." Iconic scribbling on the wall from Red vs. Blue: Reconstruction, even though that series ended over a month ago.

Right below that, Halo 3 Spartan, with CQB armor and a portable machinegun turret. Not much to say here. I accidentally switched the hue so its visor turned neon blue, which i kinda liked.

Adjacent to that, Left 4 Dead pictures, my new game obsession! Since that one is naturally bleak, no problem with switching it to black and white.

After that, Grand Theft Auto, San Andreas. Surpasses GTA 4 in a few ways, and has great replay value.

Top right hand corner, the XM8 Assault Rifle. Supposed to be the successor to the M16 Rifle, but while it was a great idea, it never really took off. in fact, it didnt even get on the runway. You could say it exploded in the hangar. I still like it, though.

Below that, my dog, Charles. other pictures i had to fuzz it a bit, but this one was easy. Naturally fuzzy.

Bottom right hand corner, me at the Grand Canyon. Im, er, totally about to jump off. Naturally, i.. er.. Hey look! Over there! A UFO!

LEFT 4 DEAD!

Okay- some background, since i'll probably start to ramble, and i want my rambles to be coherent. Left 4 Dead is a Zombie Horror shooting survival game.

The main characters are (from left to right) Zoey, Bill, Francis, and Louie.

Zoey's a teenage girl, Bill's an old Vietnam war veteren, Francis is a biker with tattoos, and Louie is a trigger- happy African American office guy. I usually play as Louie, and favor the hunting rifle. I know this screenshot shows him using an Uzi- it seems to be his signature weapon.

I finished downloading the game the other night. Sadly, my computer only is capable of running it on low settings, and sounds seem to double up.

Like- firing a shotgun goes "Blam!", right? My amazing computer goes "Blaerrblam!" Thanks, computer, but i dont think i need additional sound modifications!

Anyway, i stopped playing after the second chapter. I guess ill just wait until the new PC comes. This game is definitely a good one.

Still havent transfered my US pictures over. I'll probably wait until i get my new pc, on sitex. Current one's fixed, but still buggy, and it seems to be slower at running my games. I r vry =(1!

Anyway, im looking into new games now, partially for myself, partially for Brian (Who can get 2 xbox games for X'mas). Gears of War 2 looks good, but its only on the xbox 360- probably for Brian. Left 4 Dead looks ok too, but it seems to lack innovative storyline and is focused mostly around co-op. It does have the AI control factor, which is cool, but still- one doesnt get a game for good AI alone.

Grand theft auto 4 for the pc should have been out ages ago! Glen tells me they delayed the release date. sheesh. Its just a port over from the console to the pc- whats so tough about that?!

Tried out my board yesterday at the void deck, and met this other guy, 16 years old, who really helped me out. He's working at the nearby community centre (for rioting) but seems like a nice guy- told me all the tips, like nearby skate parks, how to pop-up, ollie, and tips like- dont ever get the board wet, but dont go obsessive with it, etc. I'll prbably give the queenstown skate parks a try, but im a little worried about the board. It seems to creak alot when im carving or leaning.i just hope it holds out, at least for another year.

Well, im back from the US! Very eventful. (No pictures yet, because i need a usb laptop handphone smartphone transfer. Also, i took like over 600 pictures. Later) For now, ill just put down a massively abbreivated account of the trip.

In 2 weeks, we managed to hit

-Disneyland*
-The Grand Canyon
-Yosemite Valley**
-San Fier- fransisco

On arrival, we stayed in my aunt's place in Diamond Bar, Los S.. Angeles. Incidentally, its one of the areas that the California forest fires hit, near the end of the trip- more on that later

Aunt lent us her van and was really great, sharing her place with us.

*Disneyland. We went there on the first day of the visit- And before you say anything.. its not all childish and kiddy. Okay, its a little so, but the rides are pretty cool. Bit like escape theme park, but with alot more roller-coaster stuff, like centrifuge rides and stuff.

After that, travelled to S.F., met my parents cousin- she helped guide us around the area. I saw the Golden Gate Bridge- or some of it.

Moving on, saw Yosemite** (not pronounced yose-mite!) Valley. Incredibly scenic. Trees covered a good deal of the place, making it look like a green carpet from above. Apart from a few roads (which somehow managed to look almost like a natural part of the place) its almost untouched by any man-made structures.

Well, after this, we still had a little time- enough to see the Grand Canyon, so poor Dad had to drive like a maniac for a full day, stopping only for lunch and rest breaks. But I think it was worth it.

Grand Canyon was a little like Yosemite in some aspects- it was mostly untouched by man, and looked really sweeping and majestic. The most obvious contrast was the Canyon's dead rock in place of Yosemite's lush vegetation, but surprisingly, i saw more wildlife (like animals, not plants) in the Grand Canyon. Both places had baby squirrels, which were cute, but the Grand Canyon had more. We spotted a deer along the road, and got off, tracking it to a clearing- there were 7 or 8 more or them, just grazing. I suppose its a little stupid to go so close to a bunch of huge animals with big antlers, but they mostly ignored us, and only ran off if you got too close.

Nearing the end of the trip. We drove back to Diamond Bar, and planned for a little rest, but the next day, the TV announced that the forest fires were spreading to residential areas, and was about a day away from our place. So, we cleared out, and stayed in a hotel, just in case, and prayed the fires wouldnt hit the house. My Aunt was pretty cool about the entire thing- she said that they'd done all they could do, and left it to the Lord's hands.

So far, so good. Up to now, no specific news about Diamond Bar, but the news reports did say the winds were slowing and the fire had been contained.

Putting my mind off that- i picked up a skateboard in the US. Most here had cost an average of S$80- 100, but i got mine for US$24.90, about 36 Singapore dollars. Im a little rusty on it, but hope to pick it up by the holiday's end.

Been trying to cover up the reason why im still here. As in Singapore. But since i went to school today, thats probably moot.

I was booted off my flight to the US 3 days ago (or was it 4?) because i didnt have a biometric passport. Its some stupid US policy that noone told me about.

Not my fault, OK?! I wasnt blur or anything, this time... Anyway, the trip's resheduled to wednesday. So I'll only return on the 20th. Oh well.

Played some Combat Arms with Jeremy. He came in with his sister. I got a couple of pistol kills, and 2 with my knife. My Ak47 never let me down! ...except when i ran out of ammo.

Jeremy's LAW missile launcher, on the other hand, did everything but what it was intended to. He got progressively better with the M16 Rifle, though. And i bought a stupid Mac-10 submachine gun.

On the upside, it has a great ROF (rate of fire) and reloads like a flash.

On the downside, Its shots are weak, it runs dry after 7 seconds of fire, and using it in battle is like trying to aim water with a broken hose. I'd bet i could direct my spit better, and do more damage with that too. Probably the most effective way to use it would be to drop it on another guy's foot and hope he or she passes out from critical bruising. Sheesh.

Argh! my computer broke down, and im having to borrow my sister's laptop. Its a graphics card problem, and i think i probably lost like 50% of my important stuff (eg. RvB videos, CS, etc) I have some vital stuff on my external hard drive, like GTA San Andreas.. stuff like that. My CPU runs fine, but theres no working link between that and the screen. Worse! Sitex is in a month or so if im not mistaken, and im going to have to last a month without the computer! Im not going to make it!

At least i have my (t)rusty Xbox. Its really old, but its still got the games, like Halo 2.

Havent posted much in the past few days after the exam, cuz i was too busy playing computer games. I imposed a self- ban in the days before the exam, so im making up for lost time- Henh.

Im jumping between computer games, playing badminton, and reading books. Im going to the US somewhere next month, and my Dads been checking out scenic photos of places like the Grand Canyon and the hoover dam. I instead used GTA SA, since alot of it is based of real-life USA, and checked out Las Vegas (called las venturas.)

Getting bored, i decided to visit more interesting places like Area 51 (called Area 69). I.. liberated.. a stunt plane, and flew over, intending to say hi.

Anyway, i think i may fail, may pass, probably a borderline case either way. Physics paper is tomorrow, so ill have to pull it together and try to make up for this round's epic fail.

Jeremy's been posting stuff about unarmed combat, so im going to post stuff on armed combat. Haha! AhahahahaHAHAAA! <------evil laughter. Damn. Its difficult to make it sound right.

First off- The classic silenced pistol.
A favorite of assassins, hitmen, spies, and gorrilla warfare.

Next- Dual micro uzi's!

Looks nice, but reloading both at once is tough. unless you put them down and then reload them one by one, which really messes with your "Gangsta" profile.

Third- The M4A1 Rifle.
Typical ''good guy'' gun.

Bad- Shots are wimpier than the AK47 (which i personally prefer)

Good- Adjustable.

4th- The sniper rifle.
Once again, popular with hitmen and dog haterz. Which is why i dont let my dog see this.

5th- The nuclear bomb.

Deployed as the last resort in war. Or, if the president accidentally presses the 'magic' button while reaching for coffee.

Exams are nεxt week, and my m1nd is beginning to fracture. Like the λlpha A.I. Serious! Lo0k, i didnt even spell octember correctly. Will my haed asplode? AAAAAAA!

Seriously, what the heck am i doin9 here? i should be studying! Actually, i did. Just enough to make me feel nauseous, but too little to make me feel like i actually accomplished anything. I call it Stage "ε", for "εmo."

Maths paper on monday. I feel prepared, but nervous. Its always the damn time limit that begins to screw with my head halfway through, making me skim over questions and do stupid things like skip questions half done. At least i dont take Amath. (im not planning to enter JC, so i probably wount need it anyway.)

On friday, Ms Lena Ang came in to take our class during PE. she helped out with our chemisrty. And in the half hour she was there, i learned more than i did in the past 3 weeks. Its still too little to rely on for the exams, but im starting to consider the possibility that my chemistry may not have to be "dead".

Funny stuff in school yesterday. Botak (kar yee) screwed up his math test (11/20) and went to the teacher to ask- well, beg- for more marks. There was one particular dispute over the way he wrote his "8". He said it was an 8, but the teacher maintained that it was a 6 or 5.

Teacher: no, this is a 5 or 6. it cant be an 8.
Botak: n0!!1! it aRre 8!!!!
Teacher: look. the line at the back doesnt even join, how can it be 8?
Botak: nooo! look! my 6 the hole so small, my here the hole so big!!
Teacher: no.

Red vs Blue- Reconstruction: major plot twist. Long story short, all the A.I. (artificial intel) that have been wrecking havok all are fragments of one artificial intelligence, the Alpha.

The fragments are merely compartmentalized emotions of the Alpha- Epsilion was memory, Delta was logic, Omega was rage.

The major twist is that the Alpha is Pvt. Church, who isnt a really a "ghost", but the original A.I.

English papers were today. Chose the 1-word compo on "technology", writing about its rapid pace, computers, robots, microwave ovens, the internet, E-mails, and even the large hadron collider, though i dont know shit about it. Overall, though, i think i did Ok. The paper 2 comprehension was on gang warfare, of all things.

"Hank Will Return" refers to the series' past protagonist, who got shot in the head in the previous episode. He's the guy with the bandanna & red goggles being hoisted up by the 2 other guys, who seem to be trying to revive him.

Webcomic!

I'm seriously getting to hate physics. By tomorrow, whoever doesnt have their books and files submitted in good condition supposedly recieves 2 canings from... i dunno.

The only good this is gonna do is that 70% of a desperate class will probably copy their friend's work, from wikipedia, from past year exams, from relavent worksheets... whatever. Point is, i doubt more than 4 people will actually have every thing complete by tomorrow, by legit means.

To add insult to (possibly future) injury, the physics teacher announced that they cut back about 5 chapters from the exam, (because the class pace was too slow).

3 chapters of which i already studied for.

What. the. fuck.

These 2 things are supposedly meant to motivate and help us, but the results are most likely that every one studies less, missing the point. The "point", which is memorization of the text, wasnt even worthwhile anyway.

Im somehow getting less and less eager to grow older, knowing that half the things done are ad-libbed.

Growing older is compulsory, but growing up is optional. I think that quite a few people in charge today opted out of the latter.

I havent been posting or doing anything much on my blog these days.

Reasons:
-Been trying to breathe new life into Counterstrike 1.6, trying to make it run a bit more like CS Source. I do have CS source, but my video card makes it lag like shit. Glen can run it fine- he's lucky. Anyway, i think a few of my weapons really turned out great, like the UMP submachinegun below. No, its not that stupid terrorist friend. Major problems with 1.6 are the lack of ragdoll physics, the horrible decals and bullet holes. in fact, it's the only game i play that uses sprites.

-Exams. Its about to come in approx. 2 weeks. Im desperatly trying to patch up my chemistry databank. Exams used to be 90% memorization, which was somewhat pointless, but easier. Now its about twisting information to your advantage, especially in History, SS and geography.

-Due to aforementioned torture process, i having to cut back on computer time. !@##$%!!! not FAIR!!!_(**&^%$!!!! :((((((!

- Complain time! My physics teacher says she cant complete syllybus in time, so i have to cover the last few chapters on my own. Same with the chemistry teacher. It isnt clear which chapters will be tested in Geography. Dn'T Practise is done, but i dont know shit about theory. I might as well skip classes if the teachers are gonna spend more than half the time scolding.

Zombie Post!

That's right, Zombie post. since ive been posting on movies lately and didnt get a chance to post on the "i am legend" movie (which wasnt bad) Im doing so now! And just in case there's a zombie outbreak, ill use this as a guide on how to survive it.

General rules to survive an outbreak of zombies:
-Be a Will Smith.
-Be a Legend.
-Be Chuck Norris.
-Be a Ninja.
-Keep a shotgun with you all the time. Shotguns are awesome.
